When We Are Closed
The care out of surgery hours for this practice is provided by Frenchay Doctors on Call (Frendoc) & (Brisdoc). This applies when the medical centre is closed i.e. from 6.30pm and overnight till 8.00am and all weekend until 8.00am on Monday. There are Emergency Primary Care Centres based at Frenchay Hospital and Southmead Hospital. (the Southmead centre is next to the Minor injuries dept). These are for consultations by appointment only, (please don’t attend without one)
Home Visits are also carried out where clinically appropriate. You will be informed which centre to attend if the doctor thinks you need to be seen.
If you call the usual surgery phone number you will hear a message with the telephone number for the out of hours service.
The direct number to the out of hours service between 6.30pm and 8am weekdays and at all times over the weekends and bank holidays is: 111
Please ring this number if you require urgent medical assistance which cannot wait until the surgery re-opens, calls to the NHS 111 service are free from both landline and mobile phones (this number will only work outside the surgery opening hours).
We count on you to regard this service as an emergency only service and if someone near you has problems travelling to the centre please help with transport. Please help us to help you by calling the out of hours service only if your medical problem cannot wait until the next surgery.
NHS Direct
In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you can call
NHS Direct (0845 4647) to speak to a triage nurse. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor.
Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
