6th May 2008 - World Asthma Day
Today May 6th is World Asthma Day, which aims to raise the need for improved asthma management and control. ‘Wish You Were Here?’ is a UK wide campaign, launched by Asthma UK to highlight the shocking differences in health and quality of life for people with asthma depending on where they live. 16th April 2008 - Payment for Private Services
Please note that certain services and reports are not funded by the NHS and that where such services are requested they are chargeable. Some reports are paid for by employers, insurance companies or solicitors, whilst others may be chargeable to the patient or individual requesting the service.
Chargeable services include
- Private sick notes
- Holiday cancellation forms
- Private medicals examinations (eg HGV, Motor racing etc)
- BUPA/PPP type claim forms for private treatment
- References for childminding etc
- Access to medical records
- Private prescriptions (eg for foreign travel, including malaria treatments)
If you need further details of services and fees charged, please ask at reception.
We accept payment by cash or cheque (mage payable to Stoke Gifford Medical Centre) and will provide a receipt for payment.
14th April 2008 - thank you to those who took part in the recent patient survey. As a result of this survey the practice is about to undertake a review of numerous aspects of the practice including telephone access and our appointments system.
Other recent innovations which may be of interest include:
- a new scanning system which allows us to add external information to the patient record much more quickly than previously
- the new automated height, weight, blood pressure machine in the corridor off the Stoke Gifford waiting room
- a new more convenient system for those patients who require regular INR blood tests because of warfarin therapy
- some of our treatment room nurses have undergone special training that allows them to initiate insulin treatment for some diabetic patients who require insulin therapy
1st March 2008 - new web site launched. This will be developed in the coming months to provide a comprehensive source of health information for practice patients as well as news about the practice and its activities.
