Thoughts, feelings and beliefs have a powerful affect on health. During the course of their lives, many people suffer the symptoms of stress, anxiety or depression. Sometimes these are a minor disturbances in response to life circumstances but they can also be more severe or arise for complex or poorly understood reasons. Nobody should be afraid to seek medical help for psychological or emotional symptoms as there are many treatments available including counseling, cognitive behavioural therapy, medication as well as referral for psychiatric assessment where needed.

Psychological distress can also cause physical symptoms too, so don't be surprised if medical staff explore this possibility with you eg some cases of headache, back pain, abdominal pain etc. This does not mean that we doubt your symptoms but simply that we are considering possible relevant factors.
